The Mechanism of Blockade of the Reticuloendothelial System

چکیده

Rats were injected intravenously with various particulate materials with and without the addition of various stabilizing agents. One hour after the injection of the blockading colloid, a tracer dose of similar or different colloidal material was injected. A half-time clearance rate of the tracer dose greater than 4 minutes was taken as evidence of blockade of the RES. Blockade of the tracer dose occurred when the surface properties of the particles in both blockading and tracer doses were identical. Different particles stabilized by the same agent behaved as identical particles and identical particles stabilized by different agents behaved as different particles. The opsonization of a tracer dose of gelatin-stabilized colloid in vitro by a specific globulin fraction obtained from heterologous and homologous plasma prevented its blockade, while opsonization of both blockading and tracer doses with the same proteins resulted in blockade. However, when both blockading and tracer doses were opsonized with isologous globulins, blockade did not occur.

Possible mechanism of tolerance to ketamine-induced blockade of cortical spreading depression

Ketamine (KET) induced blockade of cortical spreading depression (CSD) declines with repeated KET applications in a way suggesting the development of tolerance. Possible mechanism of this process was studied in 31 rats anestheized with pentobarbital. CSD was elicited by injection of 1µl of 5% KCl into cortex at 15 min intervals and monitored by recording the accompanying slow potential waves....

The effect of dextromethorphan on apomorphine-induced pecking behavior in chick

Dextromethorphan is an NMDA receptor antagonist in the glutamatergic system. Currently, there are some reports showing that the glutamatergic NMDA receptor mechanism stimulates dopamine release from several brain regions. This effect may in part modulate the stereotyped behaviors of dopaminergic system. The purpose of the present study was to determine the interaction between the blockade of NM...

Reticuloendothelial Clearance of Circulating Fibrin in the Pathogenesis of the Generalized Shwartzman Reaction

Intravenous injections of endotoxin or infusions of thrombin in the rabbit initiate intravascular coagulation but do not usually result in massive deposition of fibrin. It has been proposed that the reticuloendothelial system may function efficiently in the removal of circulating fibrin; its blockade permits reproduction of all of the features of the generalized Shwartzman reaction by infusions...

Further Observations on the Mechanism of Reticuloendothelial Blockade

The mechanism of the reticuloendothelial "blockade" which followed injection of large quantities of chromic phosphate without exogenous stabilizing material was investigated in Wistar rats. The RE blockade observed for several hours after induction appeared related to the continuing circulation of the chromic phosphate-blockading dose, and a reduction in the size of the particles used enhanced ...

Failure of methyl palmitate induced reticuloendothelial blockade to affect plasma levels of factor 8.

By EVELYN GAYNOR AND THEODORE H. SPAET T HE SITE OF antihemophihic globulin ( Factor VIII ) synthesis is unknown. Since implication of the reticuloendothelial system ( RES ) has been suggested by several investigators,1’4 and others5’#{176} have suspected a splenic role, the effects of RES blockade on plasma levels of Factor VIII have been studied. Methyl palmitate induces selective depression ...

Tissue Damage by Immune Reactions

The phenomenon has dassically been produced in the rabbit by bacterial endotoxins (2) and results from the widespread occlusion of glomerular capillaries by dense fibrin deposits (3-5). Two basic conditions (3) appear essential for the development of the lesion: (a) the slow activation of intravascular coagulation with the formation of fibrin aggregates in the circulating blood, and (b) the inh...
